Madison is a Merchandise Planner at tomboyx, a female and queer-founded, size-and-gender-inclusive brand known for its underwear. In this brand spotlight, we get to know both Madison and tomboyx a little better.
Hi Madison! Can you please introduce yourself and tomboyx?
Hi, my name is Madison (she/her) and I am a Merchandise Planner at tomboyx! Tomboyx is Seattle-based, female and queer-founded, and inclusively designed. Something I love most about tomboyx is our inclusive size range offering (XS-6X).
What messages did you receive growing up about bodies, identity, beauty, or worth? How did those messages shape the way you saw yourself?
I grew up in a family with many strong, hardworking women to look up to. They encouraged me to be my authentic self, dream big and have a work hard, play hard mentality.
Growing up in this environment helped shape my confidence and kindness. I believe in being a champion for others and learning about the beauty of the world from people with different perspectives than my own.
If you could share a message to a younger version of yourself, what would you say to her?
I would tell my younger self that all good things in life take time and patience. It is important to have goals and embrace each life chapter you are in and not forget to enjoy the journey in the moment. It is also important to have a strong group of friends to look up to, encourage and have a little fun with!
What first drew you to tomboyx, and what made you want to be part of the brand?
I was drawn to tomboyx because of the strong resonance the brand has with its customers. Tomboyx has made its mission to create products and spaces where people of all body types feel seen, celebrated, and at home.
tomboyx creates pieces for people across sizes, genders, and identities. From your perspective, what does it look like when a product really considers the person wearing it?
At Tomboyx, thoughtful design isn't an afterthought — it's the foundation. Every product is built with comfort and inclusive fit at the core, crafted for all bodies regardless of size, shape, or gender identity. From waistbands that don't dig in to fabrics that move with you, the details are intentional. Tomboyx is proudly B Corp Certified, holding itself to rigorous standards of social and environmental responsibility. And the community's voice shapes what gets made — customer feedback and requests are woven directly into the design process, ensuring that the people who wear Tomboyx have a hand in building it.
We also end our weekly team meetings reading customer feedback, and hearing how our products are making an impact in our customers’ lives. It’s so fun to hear about the adventures you are having in your Tomboyx undies!
What does it mean to you to work for a brand that proudly and visibly represents and serves queer and gender-expansive communities year-round, not just in June for Pride Month?
It is an honor to work for a values driven company that lives Pride 365. It is important to show up in the world today and encourage the Tomboyx community to live joyfully and authentically.
What are 1–2 TomboyX pieces you’re especially excited for Viva Voce’s community to discover, and why?
With it being June and warm summer weather, I am excited about our new swimwear collection. I am personally a fan of our swim high neck top and swim 4.5” short. Both pieces offer great coverage and stretch. Living in the PNW I wear them both for swimming and outdoor activities. Kayaking is my favorite summer activity and I love that the shorts have pockets!
If someone reading this has ever felt like clothing, underwear, or fashion was not made with them in mind, what would you want them to hear?
The beauty of today and more access to community through social media is finding your people. A great place to start is to find communities like Viva Voce or Tomboyx or influencers who fit your vibe. See how they are living, where they shop and how they find community. Its inspiring to see how people like you are dressing and might push you out of your comfort zone to try new styles and show off your beautiful self.
If you had a megaphone and the whole world was listening, what would you say?
The world is a more beautiful and kind place when you show up with confidence as your authentic self!
